Beginners' Courses (no previous experience necessary) - BOOK NOW!

  • All courses are open to both men and women members and the customary starting ages is sixteen years old. There is no upper age limit.
  • We believe in providing a thorough grounding in the techniques and skills of this wonderful sport. Our aim is that Beginners at the end of their six week introductory course will know and be acquainted with enough fundamental movements to embark on freeplay, fencing with an opponent.
  • You will learn to coordinate hands and feet, learn the correct names of the various movements, be taught a solid base in essential footwork and blade play. You will learn different attacks and methods of defence which, like driving a car will ultimately become automatic. Your reactions will get faster whilst you analyse your opponents play and test your skills as you outmanoeuvre and outwit them.
  • You will not be "thrown in at the deep end" fencing before you are ready. Nor will you find yourself fencing against someone who is more advanced than yourself, until you are ready!
  • The Club meets Monday and Wednesday throughout the year, apart from bank holidays and three weeks over the Christmas period.
